It's easy to make and it is delicious: grissini, the Italian breadstick
  • 500 g all purpose flour
  • 1 little packet of dried yeast
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2-3 teaspoons sea salt
  • 3-4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 300 ml warm water
  • 200 g grated cheese (what you like)
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped oregano
  1. Mix together warm water, honey and yeast.
  2. Add to the mixture all the other ingredients and once the mixture starts to pull together, begin kneading the dough.
  3. Place the dough in a large bowl and cover it with a tea towel.
  4. Allow to rise till doubled in size.
  5. Knead the dough again and allow to rise again.
  6. On a floured surface, roll the dough to a large square (0,5 cm thick).
  7. Cut it into 1 cm strips. Each strip should be about 25-30 cm long.
  8. Roll them into thin sausage shape.
  9. Preheat the oven to 180C/350 F.
  10. Place them on floured baking trays.
  11. Bake the breadsticks till golden and crunchy. (About 15-20 min.)
Be very careful not to stretch the center too thin or the breadsticks will burn before the ends are fully baked.
