Getting your baby to sleep peacefully isn’t always easy, and let’s be honest—it can feel like a constant challenge in those first few months. Between unpredictable naps and those middle-of-the-night wake-ups, finding a routine that works takes some trial and error. But with a few adjustments and a little patience, you can create a sleep-friendly environment that helps your baby rest better.

Here are four practical tips that worked for me.
Set up a cozy and comfortable sleep space
The setup of your baby’s sleep space is a huge part of how well they’ll rest. You want it to feel cozy but, more importantly, safe. A bedside crib was a lifesaver for me during those early months, allowing me to keep my baby close without having them in the bed. It gave me peace of mind to have my baby within arm’s reach, but they still had their little spot to sleep soundly. Something like the Petite Amélie crib, with its breathable mesh sides, should work perfectly.
Establish a consistent bedtime routine
A solid bedtime routine made all the difference for us. When I started doing the same things every night, my baby seemed to relax and settle into sleep much easier. You don’t need to overcomplicate it—a warm bath, a little story, or a lullaby works wonders. The trick is to follow the same pattern every night, so your baby starts to understand that bedtime is coming.
Watch for your baby’s sleep patterns
Every baby has a rhythm, and paying attention to sleep patterns can help. I started watching when my baby seemed naturally tired and when they woke up, and I quickly noticed some patterns. Sometimes a small adjustment—like moving bedtime earlier or tweaking nap times—made all the difference. Once I understood my baby’s sleep cues, I could adjust their routine to suit their needs better. If your baby is waking up frequently at night, it might be time to shift things around and try something new. It’s all about finding what works best for them.
Create a calm and dark environment
The atmosphere in your baby’s room plays a big role in how well they sleep. I found that keeping the room dark and quiet made a big difference. Blackout curtains worked wonders to block out light, especially during daytime naps, and using a white noise machine helped drown out any household noise. Try to keep distractions to a minimum, too—no bright toys or lights that could overstimulate your baby—creating a calm, soothing space that made it easier for my little one to fall asleep and stay asleep for longer stretches.
