Three Great Hobbies To Pick Up During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time when your body changes and takes your energy levels with it! As such, activities you used to love spending time on might not be all that interesting or accessible anymore. It’s not a terrible issue to deal with when pregnant, but it does leave you sitting around bored with no idea what else to do.

Picking up a new, pregnancy-friendly hobby is the best thing here. Trying out new things can be great for both you and the baby, as when you’re feeling good and having some fun, they will be too! As such, here are three activities to give a go when pregnancy has changed more than just your waist size.

Swimming

Exercising during pregnancy used to be something doctors recommended against, but now we know that staying fit and active can help your body cope with the demands of pregnancy and labor. As such, picking up a physical hobby right now might be just the thing you need. If you’re dealing with low energy and feeling like you’re dragging a huge weight around everywhere, swimming can help you to get your heart rate minutes in without putting more pressure on your organs or your bump.

The water gives you much more support and usually, you only have to do half as much activity as you would when exercising on land. You could even end up moving your baby into a better birthing position

Strategy games

It might sound a little out there, but if you’re pregnant and on bed rest, or you simply need some more mentally stimulating things to do during maternity leave, strategy games are exactly what you need. But what’s a strategy game and how do you get into them? Some are video games, some are board games, some are plain old puzzles, and even old and beloved card games like solitaire can be considered strategy games.

If you’re playing according to a strategy, you have to think outside the box, be a little more lateral than usual, and get your brain focused. And seeing as a lot of people talk about ‘baby brain’ and how it can make you a bit forgetful, this kind of cerebral shift may be very welcome.

Writing

Writing can seem a little off-putting, in the way creative hobbies often seem like high-level, advanced activities that only true artists can try out. However, writing is a great activity to try when you’re pregnant if only to act as an outlet when your hormones make you cry every five minutes. A lot of people like to do pregnancy journals at a time like this, but you can write about anything you like. Put together grand narratives, write poems or songs, or simply write down all your complaints from the day and get them out of your head.

Boredom during pregnancy isn’t fun, so let’s beat it with a new hobby or two! Get writing, go swimming, and try a game.
