There are a lot of stories in the media these days about how women should dress and how they should look. However, none of those stories are really relevant to the way we live our lives now. You are allowed to go out and wear whatever you want. As long as you feel comfortable in your own skin, you can wear whatever you feel necessary for the occasion.

Stop reading and listening to what the media is saying

This is the first thing that you need to do. You can’t sit around and listen to what other people think about your body. It’s your body and no one should have a say in how you should treat yourself and what you should wear when you are going out. If you want to feel comfortable in your own skin, you should never listen to the media.

Wear clothes that work for you

A big misconception is that you should only wear what fits. But that’s not going to make you feel comfortable in your own skin. You should wear whatever feels nice and works for you. If you feel comfortable wearing dresses but they don’t fit comfortably, you can get plus size dresses from many different places and you will be able to rock the look you want and have it fit comfortably.

Don’t ask others for their opinion

If you go around seeking validation from everyone, hoping they will compliment how you look, you will lose a lot of confidence. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take a compliment when you are given one, but you should dress specifically for the compliments that you may or may not get. Compliments make people feel nice, but they can be extremely harmful to your confidence when you don’t receive the compliments that you want. So don’t dress for others—dress for yourself.

If you can’t find the confidence inside, fake it

The fake it until you make it method really works. It sounds strange and a lot of people are against it, but faking confidence in yourself and how you look will result in you loving the way that you look. Your brain is the only thing telling you what is wrong, so if you tell your brain why it’s right, your brain will eventually listen.

Look at yourself and know that your body is always changing

The way that you looked when you were 13 is not the same way you look now. You won’t look the same way you do now in about 10 more years. Your body is always changing. You might not feel confident in the body you have now, but you are always changing and your body will too. You are not stuck in the same place forever.

Don’t force yourself to change

If you aren’t comfortable in your own skin, you might want to try eating differently or working out. This can be helpful for other reasons such as personal health, but this will not help you mentally. You should never force yourself to change the way you look just because you aren’t comfortable. You look great now, and trying to change it by force will only hurt you more.

Learn to love yourself

People say that you can’t love others until you love yourself. While this might not be true exactly, it does have a point. You will never be truly happy and content with life until you love yourself as much as the people around you love you. Look at yourself and tell yourself that you look nice. You look nice because you are you, not because of what you are wearing. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Tell yourself it is okay to feel like you have flaws. Everyone has a weakness, everyone has something that bothers them about themselves, but you should not let that stop you from feeling happy and confident in your own body.

Just remember, everyone has a weakness and a flaw that they don’t like. Everyone struggles with loving themselves. You can grow beyond this. You can feel comfortable and happy in your own skin. It will just take a little bit of work to convince yourself that you deserve it.
