Now the festive celebrations are behind us, it’s time to start planning some exciting things to do in your New Year and fresh decade!

London

The capital and most densely populated city in the UK, it’s not hard to see why London falls at the top of most ‘must-see’ lists with an abundance of sight-seeing opportunities, historic locations to visits and attractions galore. Ditch the underground this year and take to the streets, so much is missed when taking the popular underground transport and you never know what exciting places you’ll find when wandering at leisure.  

For families: Check out the Imagine Children’s Festival returning to the Southbank Centre for 12 days in February. Celebrate stories, watch performances and enjoy music from around the world with your children. Aimed at ages 11 and under, the full program can be found online. 

For older enjoyment: Fancy something exciting after dark? Give an evening walking tour a chance, with a variety of topics to explore including stories from the time of Jack the Ripper to a tour of the capital’s most incredible street art. You are guaranteed to find something for everyone. 

Leeds

Leeds may not be one of the leading cities in the UK for tourists but there is a huge variety of activities and events available to enjoy throughout the year and should absolutely appear on your ‘to-visit’ list for 2020. Check out the numerous festivals and celebrations from outdoor concerts and Pride to the ever-popular Leeds Music Festival and the Waterfront Festival. 

For families: Hop on the adorable Leeds Water Taxis, two boats running between Granary Wharf at the train station and Leeds Dock where you can find the enlightening Royal Armouries Museum and elegantly decorated Indian Restaurant, the Mumtaz Leeds. Edinburgh

Crossing the border into beautiful Scotland, there are plenty of cities that deserve a visit during your lifetime and Edinburgh is one you shouldn’t miss. One of the oldest Scottish royal boroughs, Edinburgh is home to a plethora of spectacular sights, from Edinburgh Castle to the peak of Calton Hill which offers exceptional views across the wonderful, bustling city. Explore one of the many green areas, wander through streets surrounding by striking architecture and take a tour to one of the many locations that have featured in major blockbuster movies.  

For families: There are loads of great places for families in Edinburgh, whether you fancy something entertaining and educational, such as taking a visit to Edinburgh Zoo or taking a stroll through the National Museum of Scotland.
