Parents will go to great lengths to ensure a good future for their children. This includes encouraging your kids to be more successful academically. One way to get them to thrive at school and at everything else they do is by instilling good habits in them and build their personality so that they become healthy, smart and kind adults one day. Among other things, in order to reach success in any area of life, you should nurture your kid’s creativity and make them as productive as possible. So, why not let their study room design inspire them to be creative and hard-working? Here are some ways how to achieve this.

Finding an adequate location

When deciding which room to turn into your child’s study, you have to be very careful about its location. For instance, if you have more than one child, you should choose a room which isn’t too close to where the younger children are playing, or that the room isn’t within range of anything that creates too much noise. If possible, the windows of the room shouldn’t face a busy street, since the noise and the dust from the road won’t really do your kids any good.

In short, the room should allow your kid some privacy in order to focus on their studies and anything else they’re interested in. In case you don’t have a spare room in your home and you’re considering remodeling your basement into a study for your kids, make sure that the part of your basement where you expect your kid to work isn’t directly below anything with too much foot traffic, to eliminate the unnecessary distractions.

Making it bright

Any study has to have plenty of light, especially a child’s one. Insufficient light can put too much strain on their eyes and damage their eyesight, while it can also have a bad effect on their focus. That’s why you should have a big enough window, or several of them so that as much natural light enters the room during the day. However, you should also install several lighting fixtures in their room, both on the ceiling and the walls. A desk lamp might come in handy as well.

One thing you have to have in mind when it comes to lighting is safety, so think twice before doing any of the electrical work on your own. Plus, it might be illegal. For example, Australian laws don’t allow you to do your own electrical work unless you have a license for it. Fortunately, it’s easy to find a professional electrician in Sydney, which will not only be in compliance with all the laws but will also be a guarantee that the work will be done properly and that your kid can use the lights in their study completely safely.

Choosing the color scheme

It’s a well-known fact that colors can affect our mood and our behavior, which also applies to children. This is something you should take into consideration when decorating your kid’s study. For instance, if your child is hyperactive, perhaps you can choose a calming color, such as pink. Similarly, blue and green are also relaxing, being the most dominant colors in nature, but they also promote productivity. Blue is an especially good option for a child’s study, since it can boost creativity, while orange improves memory, and yellow and red are energizing. Generally, light colors may help your kid relax and help them concentrate on their tasks, making them feel less tired. In case you’re worried that too much color might overwhelm your child, another option is to paint three walls white or beige and have one accent wall in a brighter color, to make the space more cheerful.

Getting the right furniture

With all the homework, projects, studying and reading, your kid will probably spend hours at a time in their study. That’s why it’s essential to invest in quality furniture for them, especially the chair and the desk. An ergonomic chair will help them keep their body in a good position so that they maintain a good posture and stay healthy and comfortable. Furthermore, their desk should be of an ideal height for them, but also big enough for the work they’ll do there. Think of all the things they’ll keep on it, such as a computer, a lamp, their books and various school supplies. Make sure that the desk has at least a few drawers for storing their things. You’ll also get some bookshelves, maybe a few cabinets and a floating shelf or two.

The key is to keep their things organized, so you should also get them drawer organizers, various pencil cups and decorative boxes so that everything has its place and there’s no clutter. In addition, the things they use often should be within their reach, so that they don’t break their concentration and decrease productivity by having to get up and search for things in the middle of their work. Finally, other than keeping the furniture practical, it should also look cheerful and encourage creativity. Plus, your kid should like it, so include them in the process of picking the furniture for their study.

When you invest some effort and sometimes into decorating your child’s study, it’s more likely that they’ll like spending time there. This is just as important for younger children as it is for teenagers whose interests may stray away from their school tasks and syllabus. A room that motivates them to study and create may just be what they need to stay on top of all their assignments and to help them develop their intellect.
