Being healthy isn’t easy. If it was easy everyone would do it. In this day and age when we’re surrounded by junk food and fast food and we can binge-watch Netflix shows in our PJs from dawn till dusk it’s hard. It’s hard to resist that temptation to eat like crap and sit on the couch all day.

But if, like me, you want to be the very best you can be, if you want to genuinely make the most of your body and your life, you want to be healthy. I have 6 fab little tips for you to help you to stay healthy and be your own damn inspiration. All of these are tips I personally use to stay fit and healthy and all other fit people follow them too. So let’s get started.

Never skip breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for a reason. Breakfast fuels your body and gets you going in the morning. You should have something healthy like oatmeal with blueberries – one of the best anti-inflammatory foods – or avocado spread on toast and a bowl of granola.

While you’re asleep you’re essentially fasting. You need to break that fast in the morning, hence the name breakfast. If you don’t eat breakfast you’ll find it hard to focus. You’ll be less productive. And you’ll certainly be less motivated to get in that early morning workout if your body hasn’t got the fuel to power it.

Make health a lifestyle

I think this is probably the number one tip on this list (except for the last one, they’re both as important as each other). You need to make your health a lifestyle. If you want to lose weight quick weight loss will happen if you turn it into a lifestyle.

Diets rarely work because people want to quit. If you “go on a diet” you’re only doing it for a certain amount of time. That’s why people get to their goal weights and then gain everything back. Not only that but you’re miserable. Restricting yourself of things you enjoy.

By making health a lifestyle you are taking care of yourself. Being healthy is good for you. It’s good for your mind, body and soul. Make the declaration to yourself that you’re going to look after your body and eat health and exercise like it needs.

Do what you enjoy

Some people love lifting weights, others like to take pole dancing classes. Whatever it is that you enjoy that keeps you fit and gets your body moving, do it. Some exercise is better than none. What’s important is that you get your blood pumping.

Don’t just follow the fitness trends because you think that you should. Just because everyone and their dog is currently doing a squat challenge for a big booty doesn’t mean you have to if you hate squats. Forcing yourself to do exercise that you don’t enjoy is never going to help you to live a healthy lifestyle that fulfills you.

Do exercises that excite you. Do something that makes you look forward to your workouts. If you’re a gym bunny, sign up for the gym and get lifting weights. If you prefer yoga, sign up for a yoga class or do some at-home yoga routines on YouTube. Do what excites you.

Sit and stand up straight

Don’t slouch. Yep! I know I sound like your mother right now but I mean it, don’t slouch. Slouching is so bad for you. You need good posture. In fact slouching actually weakens your core muscles!

Not only does it weaken your core muscles and cause you back ache but it shows a lack of confidence. Honestly, just try walking tall today. Push your shoulders back, make your back tall, have your chin up and face the world head-on. Just by walking tall you can tell your own brain and everyone around you that you’re confident.

Self-confidence is part of being healthy too. Physical and mental health go hand-in-hand. So try standing up tall from now on and fake it till you make it if you need to.

Stop comparing yourself to others

You are your own person. No one else in the world is like you. You bring your own unique skills and character to the world and no matter what you think of that girl on Instagram with the nice legs, she’s not you and you’re not her and that’s ok!

You are on your own journey. You’re on your own journey to fitness and you need to be your own source of inspiration. You’re on your own journey through life. Stop comparing yourself to others and start just trying to be a better person today than you were yesterday. Build and grow every day and don’t worry about what other people have. You do you.

Get enough sleep

Lack of sleep is actually linked to obesity. Are you getting in your 8 hours a night? If you’re not and you don’t seem to be able to lose weight, that’s probably why.

If you don’t have enough sleep you’re moody, irritable, less productive, less focused and you’ll crave more carbs. So just make sure you’re going to bed earlier ok?

Stay positive

Having the right mindset is paramount to your healthy lifestyle. If you believe in yourself you can do anything. I could write a whole article on law of attraction right now but like attracts like. What you put out into the world you attract back.

If you’re there constantly putting yourself down, saying you can’t do it, guess what? You won’t do it. So start believing in yourself. You can do it. You are doing it. Stop with the negative beliefs and start seeing all the amazing things you can do and achieve if you just put your mind to it.

Conclusion

There we have it; those are my 6 top tips to living a healthy lifestyle and being your own damn inspiration. The one thing I want you to remember from this list, if nothing else, is to stay positive. Believe in yourself and all your dreams will come true.
