A well-aligned set of teeth enhance your appearance. Healthy teeth are the key to healthy living because the more you chew your food, the less time it will take to digest it. Though most of us are aware of these facts, we take our teeth for granted. You do not pay enough attention to it until you experience a tooth pain or an infection. But the toothache pain does not crop up. It is a result of ignoring a long time problem that teeth do indicate in some form or other. We hardly notice it. Paying attention to certain signs will help you get rid of it before the condition worsens.
Tooth Problems
Any injury to the teeth whether it is minor or a major one caused by a road accident can be serious. You can take time to make an appointment with the dentist and visit him. But the key is to understand and identify the problems that need to be taken care of.
The tooth problems can be classified broadly into two types.

- Non-traumatic tooth problems
Traumatic Tooth Problems
Traumatic tooth problems are those which require immediate treatment from a dentist. Apart from traumatic accidents, some other tooth problems that require immediate care and attention, include –
- Knocked Out Tooth – When a tooth gets knocked out for some reason, it is better to see a dentist immediately with the knocked out tooth as re-implant of the teeth is possible if you keep it moist by placing it in milk or in the socket from where it was knocked off.
- Broken or Chipped Tooth – Whether the chipped tooth could be fixed or not, it depends on how it has chipped but keeping the part that has chipped moist and getting to the dentist will be helpful. Subluxation or condition where the tooth is knocked out of its position.
- Lacerations or Lump or Growth – Any cut or laceration has to be treated immediately. Lumps and skin growths are starting signs of oral cancer and have to be checked immediately to rule out such a possibility.
Nontraumatic Tooth Problems
- A Toothache or Tooth Pain – The reasons for a toothache or pain could occur due to a cavity, tooth decay, tooth or root infection. The dentist would be the right person to carry out the checkup to identify the problem through various procedures and would treat it accordingly.
- Swelling or Redness of The Gum – A bleeding gum indicates other health issues such as gingivitis. But when it is ignored, it will lead to serious problems and you may even have to remove the tooth.
- Jaw Pain or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder – This condition may occur due to bacterial inflammation in joints. The dentist will provide mouth guard and treat the infection. But you have to get attention when you have a pain near your ear or experience a popping sensation when you open or close your mouth.
- Enamel Degradation -The fizzy drinks have the potential to wear away the enamel on your teeth and leave it sensitive. Similarly, over brushing also can harm your teeth enamel. Find out from your dentist the reason for the degeneration, to avoid further issues.
- Dry Mouth – It is a condition called xerostomia and occurs in people who are on prescription drugs for a long period of time.
- Chronic Bad Breath and Tartar Build-Up – This has to be treated immediately to avoid further complications and worsening of the condition.
