Motherhood can be overwhelming at times. As a mother, I can attest to the many times that I have felt run-down and I couldn’t wait to dive in my sheets and have some good night sleep. For me, fall is the worst season due to the short nights. However, I discovered these 5 healthy habits that I think every busy mom should adopt to keep them going.

Exercise Regularly

As a busy mom, it can be a bit harder to meet your fitness goals since you will rarely find time to hit the gym. However, it is important for you to exercise regularly in order to keep fit. If your schedule does not allow you to squeeze in a few sessions at the gym, how about incorporating some workout routines at home? Get some dumbbells and try working out from home. You can easily do this by watching videos on Youtube or subscribing to an online fitness program.

Drink enough water

This is one healthy habit that takes little to no time at all. If you are a forgetful person, you can try to make a habit of drinking a glass (or two) of water at specific times of the day. For example, you can try drinking a glass or two in the morning when you wake up, another glass at around 10 am, take two glasses an hour before taking your lunch. You can squeeze in another glass of water at around 4 pm and two glasses of water an hour before dinner. This will ensure that your body is hydrated throughout the day.

Sleep for at least 7 hours

Okay, to a busy mom, this might sound like a line from a fairytale. With all those chores waiting for you to do them, late nights are always a norm. However, it is important to get enough sleep, and by this, it means getting at least 7 hours of continuous and uninterrupted sleep. This will give your body enough time to rest and replenish. It will also result in better mental state and it will leave you feeling re-energized.

Eat protein rich food

Healthy habits always go hand in hand with healthy eating. Always check what you are eating. Make sure that what’s on your plate is rich in nutrients especially proteins. Proteins are vital nutrients since they take part in crucial body processes such as digestion. They are also good sources of energy especially in cases of starvation.

Meditate

When you are running on a busy schedule, meditation is like heaven to you. Always set aside some time to meditate on your life. Keep track of all the accomplishments you’ve made (including the small achievements). Take note of your failures too and strategize on how to make yourself a better person. Also, look at it as a break from an otherwise busy and hectic day and rest.

As a busy mom, it is really hard to even stick to certain habits. However, if you are really focused on living healthy, you can still do it. All you have to do is set realistic fitness goals and then create a program that will help you work towards achieving them. Drink enough water, meditate, get enough sleep, eat right and exercise regularly and you will be good to go.
